TicMgr Utility Info
Included in this archive is an initial alpha/beta release of TicMgr, a utility
to allow automated requests for File Echos to be processed for the TicToss
.TIC file processor.
TicMgr supports *.MSG file systems.
TicMgr is compatible with TicToss for FeatherNet Pro, TicToss for RBBS,
TicToss for Spitfire and TicToss for TriBBS. v1.28 BETA and higher for
complete support.
------------------------------------v0.20------------------------------------
April 1, 1995
Initial release to help ensure TicMgr can properly read/process messages since
some mailers and message editors have not been updated to take advantage of the
most recent FTSC specification which documents the *.MSG file format (which is
sad since the document was published in 1990). The only reliable method for
TicMgr to find out the source of a netmail message (ie the *.MSG file) is to
search for the MSGID control line. If TicMgr has difficulty determining the
address of a netmail message please send the *.MSG note via file attach so we
can see if we can provide support. (Most netmail editors support the MSGID
standard.)
What does TicMgr do? TicMgr will scan your NetmailDir (as declared in your
TICTOSS.CFG) for any messages address to "TICMGR" which has not yet been marked
with the RCVD flag. TicMgr uses the SUBJECT field for the the Password as this
is the current de facto standard for AreaFix/Raid applications. TicMgr will
compute the sender's netmail address and verify the security information by that
defined in the TICMGR.CFG. If the security information is okay, TicMgr will
process the netmail message and create a REQUEST.DB file which will contain all
requests for adds/drops to help guard against those persons who often add/drop
file echos on/off in back-to-back messages. After processing any *.MSG
messages, TicMgr will then build a TICTOSS.NEW from the TICTOSS.CFG and the
requests for changes stored in the REQUEST.DB. At this point it is up to YOU
to copy/overwrite the TICTOSS.CFG...AFTER you have validated the beta is working
on your system PROPERLY.
Broadcast a message to your downlinks letting them know that you now support
them to add/drop echos at will. Ask them to address a note to TICMGR, place
their password in the SUBJECT field, and list a few File Echos they would like
to add. (File Echos preceded with a "+" are to be turned ON, and those
preceded by a "-" are to be turned OFF.)
Installing TicMgr:
1. unZIP TicMgr into the same subdirectory as TicToss.
2. Depending on your BBS software, rename the appropriate .INI file:
FeatherNet Pro: FEATHER.INI -> TICMGR.INI
RBBS-PC: RBBS.INI -> TICMGR.INI
Spitfire: SPITFIRE.INI -> TICMGR.INI
TriBBS: TRIBBS.INI -> TICMGR.INI
3. Modify TICMGR.CFG to install those system authorized to use TicMgr.
4. Remember that after running TicMgr the updated TICTOSS.CFG is actually named
TICTOSS.NEW...only after verifying TicMgr's operation should you manually rename
the file -- REMEMBER this is BETA software.
5. Report your successes/problems to us via email or the TICTOSS echo.
